Green tea warning

Liver transplant specialist Dr Nick Shackel from Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital said he had dealt with multiple cases of liver failure and transplants associated with herbal supplements.

In many cases, the patients had consumed green tea extract.

Re: Green tea warning

If we believed everything we are told we would not eat meat-fish -veg- drink alcohol-tea-coffee etc etc

To me it seems if we don't eat or drink we will stay healthy all our lives.

Re: Green tea warning

I note also that the OP article is talking about Green Tea Extract (GTE) rather than simply Green Tea.

GTE is a generally an isolated form of one of the tea's catechins, the most potent of which is ECGC - epigallocatechin gallate.

As with all contrived remedies, whether natural or pharmaceutical, I tend to believe that the WHOLE substance, is by far the better, more healthy and safest option vs any cure that is simply a tiny part of that whole substance.

For example, a simple paracetamol tablet contains just one active compound.

A clove of Garlic contains over 300 compounds that are all working in harmony together as provided (and evolved) by Nature.

A carton of Apple Juice contains the juice of a great many apples and as a result, all of the sugars and little to none of the fibre. As a result it is not a natural thing to eat/drink. You would not normally sit down and munch through 10-20 apples in one sitting for example.

When you eat an apple you consume about 3-5 teaspoonfuls of sugar (depending on the apple) but by eating the whole apple you are also eating all the fibre and other elements and that greatly affects how those sugars are processed in your body. Eat an apple and the sugars will convert to energy slowly and your body will use that energy for it's daily needs. A carton of apple juice contains tons of sugar and when you drink it, the sugars are converted to energy far quicker than your body needs it and it subsequently stores it away as fat.

The moral of this story, for me at least, is to drink Green Tea in its normal form, not as an extract.

Re: Green tea warning

Surely anything taken in large quantities is bad for us seems these people have taken green tea to another level and a simple cup of green tea is fine.. Even water in excess is very bad for us.
