"Deutschland, Deutschland, über alles"

= "Germany, Germany, over all"

is often supposed to mean Germany over all, suggesting military superimposition of other nations,

whereas, in fairness, I regard it as

= "Germany, Germany, above all"

in the sense that it means the respecting their country above all others, with absolutely no suggestion of it conquering other countries!

Simply a patriotic song, no different to those of other national anthems, including our own!

To be honest, I often think that more people in our own country would do well to respect it more than they do...

naming no names, of course!

The German national anthem will replace Ode To Joy in the next few years.
