Government policy is been dictated by financial need now ... I don't think they ever imagined how much the furlough scheme was going to cost. Or bailing out businesses ...or the damge done by cancelled hospital appointments ...etc...etc.
No way, for various reasons, can they afford a prolonged lockdown, never mind another lockdown.

It was always going to be a balancing act between fiscal health and public health.

Well people did know that. It's called shoving things under a carpet and then finding them next time you are cleaning.... eventually you will get tripped up!

But they could definitely manage this far more intelligently, that would however require a bit of nouse

Judging by the photo's above, there very possibly will have to be another total lock down, due to the morons at Brighton & other places.

It means anyone needing urgent treatment for heart attacks, accidents etc have to travel to Taunton or Bristol now, not good imo.
I thought the new hospitals would stop other hospitals getting infected.
It would be interested to get the official answer on this, so I've put in a Freedom of Information Act request.......... response will take up to 29 days!

I've already had a response........shouldn't come as surprise:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your email.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, NHS England has paused the
investigation of new and existing complaints. This enables clinical staff,
including GPs, to focus on front line patient care. It also enables our
complaints teams to provide vital support to the NHS.

We will continue to review and acknowledge all new complaints and will act
upon any concerns about patient safety or safeguarding. However, we will
not investigate the complaint or respond until further notice.

All customers awaiting a response to a complaint will be notified that the
investigation is on hold.

I suspect ALL humans rights have been put on hold while authorities decide how to cope with the masses........and how best to deal with the unruly ones!!

Enhanced lockdown powers needed in Brighton, council says

Brighton and Hove City Council has called for more powers from government to implement its own lockdown, after huge crowds have filled its parks and beaches. The council said local people feel "unsafe" and unable to enjoy their own area.

Council Leader Nancy Platts said visitors had been "overdoing it" with alcohol on the seafront and behaviour "has become unpleasant and dangerous"

Ms Platts added: "We are still nowhere near being back in normal times. Despite lockdown measures being eased meaning people can travel to spend time at their favourite places to visit, we're worried that the impact of this on popular visitor destinations like Brighton and Hove hasn't been fully thought through. Because so many people love coming to our city, this potentially puts people's safety at risk and could undo all the work to prevent Covid-19 spreading which was achieved."

The resources of the council and police is limited, she said, when it comes to the scale of the task before them. Stewards patrolled the seafront to manage the numbers of people accessing the beaches, but some people just walked around them.
What we need is some stormy weather .....

Morons don't like getting wet (unless they're doing something stupid, like "tombstoning") .....

Scotland: New lockdown laws warning after weekend breaches

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-52878383

Scotland's coronavirus guidelines could be enforced by new laws if "even a minority" continue to flout them, Nicola Sturgeon has said.

Scotland took its first step on the government's "routemap" out of lockdown over the weekend, with people from two different households allowed to meet up outdoors in groups of no more than eight.

She said the "vast majority" had complied with recommendations not to travel and to keep gatherings small.

But Ms Sturgeon said it was clear that not everyone had complied, with police dispersing 797 gatherings on Saturday.

And with car traffic trebling at some beauty spots, the first minister said she would not hesitate to put restrictions on group size and travel distance into law.
Good for Nicola ....
