Re: Windmills of Your Mind composer Michel Legrand dies aged 86
Great music for great films.
I have had my PVR set up for over a year waiting to record the Thomas Crown Affair on Freeview the moment it comes on as its one of my wife's favourite films. I love both the original and teh remake personally.
The music score is brilliant.
We seem to have had a golden age of such film scores and I'm not sure we will see it again.
I remember going to a Matt Munroe tribute act on a cruise once and was just staggered at how many songs I knew and how widely used his music was.
From Russia With Love
Born Free
On Days Like these from The Italian Job
and so on
Something about Legrand's Windmills Of Your Mind has a curious hold TBH. The moment you hear it you are transported back to an earlier age, the 60s/70s and all that went with it. It puts you in mind of similar quirky and instantly recognisable songs like:
Everybody's Talkin At me (Harry Nilssen)
Where Do You Go To My Lovely (Peter Sarstedt)
Witchita Lineman (Glen Campbel)
It was an era of musical revolution the like of which I doubt we will ever see again.
