I have just noticed a couple of teeny tiny green spears peeping above the soil the garlic is up!

Anyone else have any signs yet?

Yes Meg, mine are about 6" tall ..growing through the netting we put over, when we noticed squirrels digging there.. Will have to lift the netting soon!
Yes Val, it is an easy crop to grow, just plant the bulb and wait for summer

Re: Garlic 2013 .

Thanks Jan very useful. I am doing very little this year as I will be putting my house on the market in April/May but I may grow some garlic when I move. I aim to do a lot more in the garden when I am retired and have the time.

Re: Garlic 2013 .

Our garden is important to us...it's where we spend our time in summer. We potter, rain or shine we grow a little veg, and I have my greenhouse for seeds and cuttings.
We find it therapeutic. And we don't have far to go for the loo or the kitchen for coffee
Good luck with the house sale and I hope you find the right place with a good garden to move into

I grew some last year and it was OK, but we use so little it is hardly worth the even minimal effort involved....

Shame Barry, we use quite a lot of garlic. I've said before that daughter and dil 'pinched' our plaits last year (they were impressed by them) maybe I shouldn't blow my own trumpet but they did look good. What they left us, has long gone This year, I intend making three plaits
(famous last words come to mind)

Gosh Janela I guess it is milder where you live, I had to get the magnifying glass to see mine

Val as Janela says it is easy to grow, you just stick it in and leave it .

Heather yours are doing well too from the sound of it.

I grew 22 cloves last year and had eaten it all by October. I wish I had room to grow more.
