Last Years Potatoes

I grew some potatoes last year in a barrel and clearly missed some when I picked them. They seem to be growing will I be able to eat these safely or should i throw them away and strart again

Hi Fleur, the ones I'm growing this year are potatoes which I saved from last year's crop. I don't advocate you do this every year as they can become diseased but one or two years should be OK.

That's what my granddad did all through the 60s 70s and 80s each year keep a few to chit and plant next year. You can go on forever doing it.

we plant all our spuds in containers, and there's always a few that get left behind! but as stated, they'll be fine

I pulled some out from my compost heap earlier this year and they were gorgeous. Heaven knows how the plant got there, unless I'd emptied the compost from my two containers into it.
