A Weird Spring.

Hi

The weather is all over the place, with random frosts.

I cannot wait any longer, so have ordered garden fleece.

I need to plant out.

Re: A Weird Spring.

It’s more like winter here, heating back on, cold and miserable.

Re: A Weird Spring.

I’ve not known an April like it .
Here on the south coast my hydrangeas have gone back into winter hibernation , their leaves have fizzled up with frost

Re: A Weird Spring.

I've noticed plants sprouting unnaturally, weird growth like they're unsure of the time of year.

in 1981 it snowed on April 24th. I remember it because my next door neighbour had a baby that day and her husband couldn't get to hospital

That's right LQ and I had driven from Dorset to Shropshire house hunting .
We stayed in B&B in the stables of a farmhouse and it was freezing .
We had to be guided through the snow to the main road in the tracks of a tractor My son was 3YO and fed the Peacocks at the farmhouse.

Everything in the garden is going to be late this year , I have had to re sow some seeds.

My hydrangea looks good, after it was caught by a late frost last year I cover it every evening with an empty dustbin.

Re: A Weird Spring.

Another frost forecast here tonight.

I am still putting things out to harden off during the day, and then either covering them or bringing them back in overnight.

I haven't grown and nutured stuff for weeks on end, just to let them die at this stage.

That's what I've got to do too this year. Just back from a visit to my own home but everything's still in the greenhouse, Himself just opened the door through the day and closed it up at night, even so I think some of my seedlings will have died. I'll get in about it tomorrow and see what's what.
