Re: Charles: 50 Years a Prince
He certainly took a risk going through with the investiture, two men were killed in an explosion on the eve of the investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969.
Alwyn Jones, 22, and George Taylor, 37, dubbed the Abergele Martyrs, are believed to have been planning to plant a bomb near a railway line in Abergele which was carrying the prince to his investiture at Caernarfon Castle on July 1, 1969.
They both died when the bomb exploded prematurely. Half an hour before the ceremony, there was another explosion, with footage of police snipers on rooftops fearing somebody planned to target him as he left.
