Rainproofing My Camper (part 32)

I have just bought a new tent to use with my Teardrop camper, at the momnt it is untested for a couple of reasons. The camper is in my car port and impossible to get into the garden, it is windy and far too cold to put the thing up anyway (currently 18° and not likely to get any warmer even though there is not a cloud in the sky).

It has been mentioned before but the one flaw with my camper is that if it rains the bedding will get wet if the glass part of the doors is left open. I have devised a crude but untested solution using a tarpaulin but have hoped for a better way of solving this problem.

Anyway I saw this tent on special from a retailer, it was reduced from $200 to $120 for a week so I bought one. It is designed to fit on the back of a SUV or a ute with a canopy as shown in the picture.

My hope is that I can attach it to the side of my camper over the door area. If it doesn't work at worst I have a shelter for the back of my car.

The floor area is 285cm by 220cm and the tent is 200cm tall so I can stand up in it. Apart from rain proofing the camper it could serve as a toilet/shower tent as well as a shade/ dining area in inclement weather.

One thing I really like is that packed up it is only about 50cm by 20cm by 20cm so very small and easy to fit in a small space. It is slightly smaller and lighter than the pack for the toilet/change/ensuite tent

This is where I bought it, though as I say, it was on special at $120.

Re: Rainproofing My Camper (part 32)

As an after thought here is a pic of the packed ensuite tent compared to the new one.

The older tent is marginally lighter but as you can see a larger pack. It also is a much smaller floor area - 120cm by 120cm.

To be fair both my youngest son and my daughter carry a "pop up" ensuite tent which are very light and literally take a minute to erect. Neither of my tents are anything like as convenient. Gone are the days of just carrying a shovel or washing in a nearby dam

However it has to be remembered that my new tent was not primarily purchased as an ensuite tent as the latter is really only needed when free camping and more particularly in mixed company.

Wow! That's slick and a good bargain. I am sure it will serve you well to keep out the rain and perhaps setting up a small table when you want to keep your setup compact.
