Anyway, let's look at this "extention" you refer to. Since you brought it up, perhaps you'd like to elucidate on some specific examples that you've got in mind. Who do you think would benefit from these "mercy killings"?
Those in constant physical pain, those profoundly psychologically unwell, and more. People who live lives of constant horror unless drugged quite literally "out of their skull".

Re: Trump to execute 5 convicted killers

So you'd advocate euthanising anyone with a psychiatric mental illness - because that can be interpreted as being profoundly psychologically unwell. That would include anyone with dementia and Alzheimer's. As well as women who develop postpartum psychotic depression. Even people with a brain tumour would be condemned. What about young girls (or boys) with Bullimia or anorexia? Someone with a learning disability would be ok? If their IQ was too low would you also euthanise them?
How about downs syndrome? Autism? Where do you draw the line? Who decides?

Indeed. The list could include many things. A "propensity towards religion" perhaps? The psychological aspect has a whole host of interpretations.

I agree with your sentiments but the idea of eugenics is far older than the Nazis. It was a term coined by British mathematician Francis Galton in the 1880s and became a popular notion in the UK in the late 19th and early 20th century. He proposed the idea of improving the quality of the population by controlling who could breed much earlier.

Galton was an interesting character who developed the idea of using fingerprints as a method of criminal identification as well as many other scientific principles we still use.

The option should exist.

Yes, but what I would like to see the option being available, not a thing to be used in every case.

Actually when it comes to eugenics it's worth keeping in mind that
up to and including 1976 forced sterilisation was still taking place in the USA - and more than likely well after 1976 too.

That would have to be part of the protocol that would need to be set out to cater for different examples but it is entirely feasible.

Has to be said Todger, that for one who professes to be against the death penalty, you're remarkably glib about snuffing out the innocents in the world.

If only you'd been around in the early 1930's, you'd have been a welcome addition to a fledgling political movement with your faith in setting up "protocols".
