For Jem

My grandfather spent some time in Dublin during the first world war, this is one of the postcards he sent to his sister. The postcard still has clear writing on it, on the back, and a halfpenny stamp. I have others he sent too but can´t put my hands on them right this minute.

Thanks Loretta, I’ve seen a lot of photo’s of the aftermath of the 1916 rising but not this one, that was the old Liberty hall union headquarters of James Connelly and his citizen army. Builders providers Brooks Thomas on the right are still in business, but not on the same site.



Here is Liberty hall as it is today rebuilt on the same site.
