I agree with many of the posts above,to me Religion Conflicts with Common Sense,the Religious Right,does have a strangle hold on some politicians,simple minds do dumb things,and they repeatedly re-elect these dopes into office.where the try to push their agenda on everyone else.Good thing we have a Constitution and Amendment's that protect us,from stupid people.But they try and try and waste time.That's about all they accomplish.

Apparently there have been various surveys both in Europe and USA which show that the people most tolerant and respectful of other people's views and beliefs are atheists, humanists and so on
How does the saying go?-----

I disagree with what you say, but I defend your right to say it'

As I understand things, the USA was founded by people escaping from religious persecution, so when they wrote the Constitution they specifically separated The State and religion, and made it quite clear that a person's religious beliefs should not be a factor in appointing them to political office or other positions of authority
