Christmas Gifts for teachers

A school has banned Christmas gifts for teachers.
Goodness I never gave any of my children's teachers Christmas gifts .
Is this a new fashion?

We never gave gifts to our teachers - but some of us did make cards for them.

Re: Christmas Gifts for teachers

In Denmark ( and Sweden I think) people used to give teachers a basket of apples or potatoes, because they couldn't afford to pay for the children's education..... but that was back in the 1700's.

I do wonder though, if the song that starts " An apple for the teacher" ( no idea of who wrote it and when) may have been responsible for people to feel they need to give teachers presents now.

Re: Christmas Gifts for teachers

I've never heard of gifts for teachers it's just cards here and the kids put on a little song and dance to say thankyou to their teacher, each class has a few turns in the school hall coming up to last day to perfect what ever they are doing. It's quite sweet and I've seen teachers in tears over the sentiments expressed.

Re: Christmas Gifts for teachers

In my schooldays we didn’t give teachers presents or cards, my parents couldn’t afford it anyway. My children didn’t give presents to their teachers either but they did give their friends cards. However, I noticed that my grandchildren took presents in for their teachers.

I think it just takes one parent to start the habit and others feel they have to do the same these days.

My kids did, mostly a bar of chocolate or bath cubes (do they still exist?) and a home made card.
I stopped doing it when a friend who was a teacher said she just took the bag of presents she recieved straight into the charity shop.

I think bath cubes got bigger Tessa and they are called bath bombs now....I don't recommend them though they make the bath water scummy.
