Today I had a few jars with an old friend of mine, last time I saw him was this time last year and he looked wretched then, his daughter had taken him out to our local and he was barely able to walk, I was nervous sitting facing him at the table, I honestly thought he was going to keel over any second, when he eventually left I thought I would never see him again in this life.
However today he was a completely new man, a lovely colour in his face, a few pounds extra on him, and he was very active in his movements, he was smiling like a cheshire cat, I was delighted to see him looking so well.
I didn’t like to ask him what happened to him but the daughter told me he had a big operation six months ago, seems they removed something that was causing all the trouble, I didn’t like to ask her what it was, reminded me old this old song below.
My dad was a great fan of Stanley Holloway and this monologue was one of his party pieces, every Christmas time I think of him standing in the middle of the small parlour room performing it for the whole family, he could take off Holloway’s cockney voice to a ’T’, rest his soul.
As someone commented below the video “Better than any rapper around today”
Aww, what a lovely post, Jem.
I had a good visit with my Uncle yesterday. It might be his last Christmas, so I will be making the most of it this year.
