You won't believe it, but it is never the politicians ruling. Politicians come and go, at most placing accents on policies. Your loyal civil servants perpetuate and continue your tranquil existence. Over the years they have come to know what is fitting for your country, county, municipality. The know what is practical, achievable.
So during election time politicians babble and promis what you want to hear. As soon as they are in office they are told the realities of that office. They either adapt, or accept and adapt.
Want to challenge that reality?

Re: Dark Days Ahead...And We Can't Even Vote Ukip!

I suspect that Tony Blair may well be planning a coup to get back in as PM.

Allegedly assisting the EU in discussions on Brexit (With "How Remain Can Win" Stories).

Allegedly, Pushing hard for a new referendum. I guess he thinks he'll win through that as all the Brexiteers will be bored with the whole thing. The EU mandarins would love him for that!

He might well just leave Corbyn, and that mob, in place long enough to make sure that none of the Socialist Brexiteers is likely to oppose him.

Then he might have to step up and make his bid, for leadership, just as a General Election starts to gather steam.

PM by next year, leader of the EU shortly after.

I rest my case...!

There are a hell of a lot of marginal seats in the UK that voted leave. Any party with a pro brexit manifesto lead by (someone like) Nigel Farage would clean up if there was a general election.

That I can believe. He was all set to get on the gravy train when it was taken from him by the voting public.

You may well be right. Sadly.

If you are saying that politicians make promises, to get elected, and then they don't follow through on those promises after being elected, I'd say "However can you say such a thing?".

Our politicians are thoroughly respectable, honourable and intelligent.

Just like Politicians in all the other countries in the EU, USA and the world at large.

If people buy snake oil, it's their choice.

But the thing is, in a Democracy, they HAVE a choice.

Hi

That most certainly is not how it works here Solasch.

Change of Political Control, complete change of direction, projects scrapped and new ones started at a cost of £Billions.

Money is not an issue, it is not their money they are spending.

There was no planning for Brexit, none aloud, don't be stupid, it will be a cakewalk, we are bound to stay in.

Immediately after, panic stations, plans produced for a No Deal and a simple WTO Free Trade Agreement, which is what we are wanting from the rest of the World.

It will cost how much?

Stopped dead, by the Politicians.

Not the Remainers, but the Brexiteers.

We are not wasting money on that, they will come running.

We promised seamless trade, we can have our cake and eat it and we will deliver on that.

We hired one of the top Trade Negotiators in the world, they didn't like what he said, so sidelined him.

They argued about £70 Million for a vital computer upgrade and delayed it.

We could have left next March, with a WTO Free Trade Deal, no Tariffs on most things and no need for a transition period

We are now paying £18 Billion for a Transition, handing money to the EU and have got no guarantee of any kind of deal at all.

The Remainers have lapped it up.

You could not make it up.

I certainly hope so.

May has made mistake after mistake and the consequence is that her party have had it.

If she had honoured the referendum vote straight away, made the necessary provisions before triggering Article 50, and got straight on with leaving, things would have been very different.

She wasn't much cop as Home Secretary either, by all accounts.
