The Americans are no safer just because all their police are armed, much less safe, imo.

Comparing America and the UK is not comparing apples with apples.

Especially young black males in many places sadly. I do think our police are better than that so we have less to fear.

Re: Should UK police officers be routinely carrying Tasers?

Hi

I have never been Police or Military.

In 40 odd years of being an Enforcement Officer, 28 of those with a Home Office Permit to use a Firearm in a Public Place I have only once had to use it in the UK.

That was against an escaped Bull from a Slaughterhouse in Yorkshire.

We are trained to take them alive, a dead Terrorist is no use,

A live one is a valuable source of Intelligence.

I would not trust some Police Officers with a Pencil Sharpener, let alone a gun.

There are times you have to kill, simple fact of life.

A bearded lunatic swinging a Machete is not one of those.

A machete is easy to take off them, it is one of the most ineffective weapons in existence.

A professional with a 3 inch blade is a totally different matter.

Thankfully our home Terrorists are idiots.

The ISIS trained ones coming back are a different matter.

We are talking about crims in general Swims, not just terrorists...

Don't agree re shooting at the wrists either - small moving targets. Double tap to the frontal lobe which controls movement is the way to go to prevent movement.

I still maintain the Police should be armed, but obviously trained properly and regularly evaluated.

See that? I am in favour of armed police as I said all our police are armed at all times they definitely would not be using a taser against a terrorist.

It might help if you actually read what I wrote rather than rattling off at a totally irrelevant tangent and perhaps avoid making absurd statement like "... a bullet to the wrists to stop any pressing of buttons." surely you are aware that suicide vests are detonated by releasing a trigger rather than pressing it? Not to mention the remote chance of hitting such a small target, police are trained to shoot at the torso for a reason.
Not always Bruce, a dead mans trigger is only sometimes used...

Yes they should have tasers. It's madness to expect them to be confronting people possibly armed with knives with nothing to defend themselves with.

In which case - why was that police officer stabbed - not once - but multiple times?

Rubber gloves

I saw this today, no camera, no cuffs, no cosh.

It might work (?) Amiable cop on the street. Evenin' all.
