The Apostrophe Vigilante.

Hi

The British Eccentric is alive and living.

A man in Bristol is on a mission to sort out wrongly placed apostrophes on signs.

He operates at night, great fun.

Perhaps we need an apostrophe monitor on here.

He's bonkers. The fact that he finds it extremely aggravating does not give him the right to creep about meddling with other people's property. He's a control freak.

If he came round my house fiddling with my house sign, I'd soon shove him off his ladder.

Good for him!

If our education system isn't working (be it due to teachers, pupils or parents) we need someone to make these corrections. If not, we run the risk of foreigners seeing our quite common mistakes and thinking that we must all be thickos.

Re: The Apostrophe Vigilante.

It always pains me when I see an apostrophe misused – whether included or excluded in error.

PS. Or misplaced.

Me too!

I think mobile phone using has much to answer for.

They have put the apostrophe on the Symbols page. Maybe that stops a large percentage of users from bothering.

Our language becomes more American day by day.
