5 million!

We've made it! But there is a suggestion that there might be a surge in 8 or 9 months time!
New Zealand's resident population has now reached 5 million.

Stats NZ announced today that we cracked the milestone in March.

It took just 17 years to add one million people after hitting 4 million in 2003. About half that million came from natural increase (births minus deaths) with the other half coming from net migration.

Re: 5 million!

With New Zealand being about 10% larger than the UK and with a population about thirteen times less I am guessing it must be quite deserted by comparison!

Congratulations!...That's a nice comfy number of people in a country the size of NZ. We are thinking of visiting in the next couple of years.

Didn't I say somewhere else on this forum that there was a global shortage of condoms?

Re: 5 million!

Haw! ..Some unkind Sydneysiders I know would suggest how you could double your population to a comfortable 10 million right now. By giving you Melbourne. I don't agree. I love Melbourne - because it is so different to Sydney. But at least the cold weather would fit.
