Re: Rob's Rhymes

TRINITY

10

I sit here quietly on my tower
and feel within me latent power
A few short months I've been alive
and now my time it does arrive

9

I've not much time to contemplate
on my existence and my fate
The time is near to meet my end
All alone and with no friend

8

My birth, two thousand miles away
where scientists in their labs did play
My power comes from within the Earth
and many failures precede my birth

7

Of siblings I have had so many
They all failed, now there aren't any
I am the first one of my kind
Alone I am, but I don't mind

6

I sit here in the desert sun
my final task has now begun
My masters wait five miles away
and soon to them I'll have my say

5

They wait in silent expectation
I am the saviour of their nation
It is my God given mission
to end a conflict of attrition

4

If I perform as I'm expected
a great wrong will be corrected
This great task that I'll perform
will restore the world to the norm

3

The signal comes, my time's at hand
I now obey my last command
I gather up my vast resources
and release titanic forces

2

I feel a fire within my heart
the final process now does start
The time has come, all will be well
I'll now release the fires of hell

1

The pressure builds beyond belief
soon will come a great relief
I glow with radiative power
Now has come my finest hour

0

I burst apart in a vast explosion
followed by vacuum implosion
Above me hangs my great death shroud
A huge expanding mushroom cloud

Re: Rob's Rhymes

COMPANION

The old man sits in his chair by the door
His dog lies beside him curled up on the floor
Ever since that day when the man lost his wife
that dog had, to him, been the whole of his life

With his constant companion through all those long days
he'd sit in the sun enjoying its rays
It seemed like for hours the old man had dozed
A faint smile on his face and his eyes tightly closed

The dog licks his hand and emits a faint whine
and looks up at his face as if for a sign
But the man doesn't move, just continues to smile
so the dog lays back down on the floor for a while

The dog gets its ball, lays it down at his feet
but the man takes no notice, just stays still in his seat
He nudges the ball as if he were saying
"What's wrong with you, why aren't you playing"

Then, as if in acceptance, the dog quietly sighs
and looks up one last time with adoring eyes
The dog keeps his vigil through the night 'til next day
ever since, that sad morning, when the man passed away

Re: Rob's Rhymes

Thank you both, much appreciated. My wife says that some of the stuff I write is overly sentimental, but what the hell

Just to lighten things up a bit, this one was written during the very heavy and prolonged snow, in 2010 was it? Most of it didn't happen although I did have to get the gas, but it COULD have ...

I went up the road for a bottle of gas
I slipped on some ice and fell flat on my ass
I got up quite slowly, but did not remain
'coz I slipped in some snow and fell over again

I walked to the pavement and onto the grass
and once more, quite heavily, fell on my ass
I hung onto a wall but my grip gave away
so I fell on my ass for the fourth time today

I staggered about but my feet they did slip
then I fell on my ass 'coz my shoes lost their grip
I got to the car and opened the door
but my feet slipped away and I fell on the floor

I drove down the road and got out of the car
then I slipped once again, that's the seventh so far
I picked up the gas and crossed over the street
but the snow was so deep I came right off my feet

I got back in the car and started off home
but my eyes got distracted and started to roam
I came up behind a bloody great bus
and smashed in the back, I didn't half cuss

I sorted it out and got back in again
I thought that at last on my feet I'd remain
but I got out at home and once more I hit ice
and fell on my ass in much less than a trice

I walked up the path, the gas bottle in hand
then I found some more ice and just couldn't stand
So I dropped the gas bottle, I had to let go
and it fell on my foot and squashed my big toe

Then I opened the door, I'd got back to our place
but I tripped on the mat and fell flat on my face
Then I walked in the kitchen and Diane was there
She said where have you been, I've been tearing my hair

So she picked up a pan, her face was all red
and in spite of my troubles I was wacked on the head
I'm not really moaning but I just have to say
so far this morning it's not been a good day

Re: Rob's Rhymes

Just before we go out for our Sunday carvery, I'll leave you with this cheerful rhyme ...

APOCALYPSE NOW

It is now 'The End Of Days'
Don't look at us, avert your gaze
We four, beyond time and space
bring judgement to this sorry place

An icy hand, your heart, it grips
Behold 'The Horsemen of the Apocalypse'
So let me introduce to you
the four members of our crew

My name is Death, my horse is pale
You'll plead with me to no avail
As you are judged, so will you pay
No sinner will escape this day

With my scythe I'll reap your soul
for that's my one and only goal
Your punishment you know so well
You will be consigned to hell

My name is Famine, my horse is black
I'm the reason that food you lack
I'll smite your cattle and your goats
and wither all your wheat and oats

I'll dry your rivers and your brooks
as foretold in Revelation's books
I'll blight your fields of golden maize
because this is 'The End Of Days'

I am Pestilence and my horse is white
Unlike Famine it's YOU I'll blight
I'll visit on you plague and disease
Bacteria will bring you to your knees

Bubonic Plague will crack your skin
'gainst my infestations you can't win
And to finally seal your fate
A harmless virus, I'll mutate

And here am I on my blood red horse
My name? Why, it's War, of course
Along with Pestilence and his infections
I bring you war and insurrections

I'm in all the bombs you drop
and like the others I'll not stop
until your world is burnt to ashes
and civilisation around you crashes

So now's the time and here's the place
It's judgement for the human race
Flee in panic, you can't hide
for we are riding out world wide

MY NAME IS SATAN, THIS IS MY TIME
I'M HERE TO PUNISH EVERY CRIME
THESE INCARNATIONS DO MY BIDDING
EARTH, OF ALL SINNERS, I'LL BE RIDDING

GO, YE GOOD SOULS, TO THE "RAPTURE"
THOSE REMAINING I WILL CAPTURE
AND NOW FOR ALL ETERNITY
COME ALL YE SINNERS AND BURN WITH ME

Re: Rob's Rhymes

PILGRIMAGE

The hill is steep, the way is long
but I know I must be strong
Though I may stumble, even fall
I will recover and walk tall

As I journey I might well find
that distractions may confuse my mind
But with single minded concentration
I'm sure I'll reach my destination

If thorns should tangle up my feet
I'll struggle on and not be beat
Through bog and mire and deep morass
I'll keep the faith and safely pass

Through howling winds and driving rain
my determination will not wane
And though my will may sometimes falter
my destination will not alter

An ache consumes my very soul
To reach Nirvana is my goal
That place of happiness distilled
where all my needs will be fulfilled

There is an instinct I obey
so I will never lose my way
And even if I slightly stray
I know I'll get there by mid-day

Let Bacchus be my guiding light
until, at last, my goal's in sight
With his help, despite my qualms
I know I'll reach 'The Maltsers Arms'
