My mum still has those old hot irons around-the kind you had to heat up before ironing your clothes. We have some old family heirlooms like old metal curling irons that you had to manually heat too.

women made beautiful things then-lace, doilies, crochet, etc. My kids don't even know how to sew a button on a shirt!
