Re: did I mention it >

I get very despondent if I visit my JC. I don't need to sign on, as technically I'm still employed by the NHS, but without work (bank administrator), and I am way past the eligibility for NI contributions. The jobs on offer pay peanuts, and the building is full of people who look like they have never put into the pot in their lives (without getting into a political debate here!!)

I am 1 year 11 months from State Pension and surviving on a small work pension, and my savings, if work is un available from the NHS. I could survive, but would rather still have a small but steady income until March 2015.

As I have told people who care to listen, I fear I am in that age discrimination category. If I show an interest in a temp booking, (they now text them), I am told that the manager first needs to look at my cv and decide whether to interview me for the position. And that is if I ever get through!

I have now finished my sick leave from my hand injury (though I've yet to find out if I can type ok, doing this on iPad), and suppose ready to get back to work. 2 more weeks of SSP - of £69.50 - then no more income if no work.

I put the blame squarely on the fact that our PCT merged with Whittington Hospital, from which all bookings now come. While with Haringey I had no shortage of work. Yes, I still look on NHS Jobs. My local paper has half a page of job adverts, which amounts to near zero. I trawl the Internet. Still nothing.

So, I know a little how you feel. Good luck.

These people getting paid to find jobs/training opportunities for the unemployed should get a basic (just above) minimum wage and then be paid a productivity bonus for every person they put in work/ training, they'd soon lift their game then

To be fair it must be a soul destroying job for every decent job seeker they see, they see an awful lot more who really are unemployable and some are down right rude/nasty and even dangerous. Couldn't pay me enough to do the job.

At the moment maggis they get a bonus for every person the 'sanction' IE remove their benefits ...that is a much easier option ..that is why last time the government released figures they said less people where claimimg JSA (job seekers allowance)...but in real terms the Jobless total had gone up, this is because they didnt count the people on workfare (slaves working for no wage) and the people who were sanctioned ...
