they shed their leaves in winter
did another long years work
Gave oxygen to everyone
and shade to rest from work

And as I look at empty glades
with sky that shines right through
I wonder how they will survive
The winter frozen dew?

They’ve gone to hibernation
Not lying ; standing straight
They will remain as sentinels
Until the next spring break

But they have one last task to do
As winter hurries in
They will produce some ‘leaves’ of snow
To take away the sin!
