Home stuff

Well have been looking for a new Dining Room Table & chairs, also Sofa/Suite/chair(s) but just amazed at the cost of some
Also we have only a Gas Fire in our Lounge(no Central heating at all) so as we have not used it for years we thought perhaps we would get a new one - Hhhm - had a Qualified Gas Fitter in who says that the Chimney would need to swept & certified as okay before he could do anything - I understand the safety thing....but nothing is easy is it & it all adds to cost.....

Re: Home stuff

I had the chimney swept here when I moved here and it cost about £25

The man who did it was actually retired but his number was still in the phone book, but said he'd do it anyway. He was into a pure 'juice' diet and did yoga - and was extremely fit for his age - he said his girlfriend was 21

I'm a bit amazed at the cost of furniture these days too; not something you buy frequently. My coffee table got broken recently (long story), and was rather taken aback at the prices for a replacement for a simple Queen Anne style table

Re: Home stuff

They dont make furniture like they used to do.
Most of our furniture is over 40yrs old and still like new, mind you we paid well over the average cost for it back when we bought it.
Buy quality and it lasts just like my wife.

I did look at the price of new beds for the spare room and decided to stick with the sofa bed that is in there. I need my arms and legs more than I need a bed.

I have never had a chimney swept in any of our houses so I could not comment on this subject.

We have been looking for a Mahogany dining table and chairs well they are reallt out of fashion but all our other wooden things are Mahogany and we don't want to replace them all we need a quite small one 120cm long and impossible to get so we are thinking of having one made for us won't be cheap but I hope worth it....

Re: Home stuff

My friend buys most of her furniture from auction rooms or free ads, she has had some real bargains.
