Best Carpet Cleaner/Washer ?

Just finished the carpets in the hall and lounge with my old(ish) Vax machine. Not impressed too much!

It has been repaired once, but although it is better - hmmmm.

The repairman thought Vax were inferior to other makes, so can anyone give a few thoughts please. I use the carpet shampoo 5L fluid from Toolstation, as Vax fluid seems a rip-off.
Thanks

Re: Best Carpet Cleaner/Washer ?

I hire a machine from a DIL place when I want to wash the carpets, they leave the carpets almost dry .

I would think they are very expensive machines to purchase and beyond the pocket of most households so you are getting an expensive service for a small outlay.

The only problem is some can be very heavy .

Re: Best Carpet Cleaner/Washer ?

Dobra, One of my friends on face book announced last week that her carpets had just had the best clean of their life.
She used a 'Rug Doctor' machine on them.

I made a note of it because I shall hire one too when mine need doing.

If you scroll down the page a bit you will see where you can find your local store to rent or buy. At £22 a day for hire, that's what I would do.

Maybe my face book friends other half did it for her - she didn't say...

The main thing is though - she said it made a brilliant job of it.
What did you reckon to 'Rug Doctor' yourself Rachel?

Hi

I have white carpets, use a Vax Dual V machine and this stuff

It also works better if you fill with warm water, around 30C.

Re: Best Carpet Cleaner/Washer ?

The worst thing you can do to your carpets it to shampoo them.
The detergent will lift the dirt alright but also remove the protective anti dirt layer in the wool or the fabric of the carpet making it much more susceptible to the attraction of any future dirt.
So once you start the cleaning process you are never done with it ... Your carpets will never be free from dirt.

It was a long time ago and we only managed to do our main carpet.

Can't remember how well it cleaned but it took ages and there was no way we could have moved it upstairs !

Maybe they're lighter these days.

I got someone in to clean mum's carpets

I used to like karcher machines though that was back in the days when I did office cleaning and they used to like the foyers done on a regular basis to keep them nice.
They aren't too heavy and left the carpets almost dry.

Malcolm .. there's a thing called Scotchgard , used either as a protector or included in the actual carpet cleaning solution.

Yes Morti I know all about the Scotchguard treatment and how it works.
Believe me shampooing your carpets it the very worst thing you can do even if the solution contains some supposedly 'protective' chemical.
