Not in my field, Electrical Engineering. Our standards are decades ahead of theirs and more logical.

Second hand books shelf...reason, might be harbouring germs

Bringing in cakes for birthdays and other special occasions...reason, all food must be professionally prewrapped

The Red Cross manicure volunteer is no longer permitted to cut or file or varnish nails...reason, someone might be allergic and tools aren't sterile

The volunteer Aromatherapist is no longer permitted to use Sweet Almond base oil...reason, someone might have a nut allergy

And so it continues.

To be honest it's heartbreaking.

If we didn't have standards we might be doing this quality of work:

I wonder once we are out of the EU if we can bring in our own rules
H&S were never around when I fell off the Wagon.

We can but we won't. It would mean that politicians would need to get off their lazy arses.

Health and safety in general is a good thing, many workplace accidents and injuries have been prevented by applying common sense, which a lot of H&E, is based around, the problem begins when people assume that if they take place in certain activities, then they are in breach of health and safety, and are afraid of being sued,

In UK we do already for electrical installations. It's BS7671, commonly referred to as "The Regs"

Most of the rules and regulations appear to be Health & Safety based. There was none of this in the past so are we a better society as a result or is it just getting far too much, what you you think about this?
This is about food hygiene, the hospice has a 5 star kitchen, and good reason - I'm sure - not to want cake donations from questionable sources. Of course the WI old biddies mean well, but ...
