If I get to my payment page & discover I'm being charged postage I abandon the order & get it from ebay who never seem to charge postage.

Other times Amazon require you to spend a certain amount to get free postage so I order a book or something to make the amount up. It doesn't bother me as I'm always ordering books. Can't have too many.
I do that too Carol. No you can't have too many books.

Those who order from Screwfix may have noticed a similar tactic where a box opens offering a discount if you order in bulk. Unless you cancel it, the bulk order ends up in your your basket.

I suppose it's a bit like donating your kidneys, you have to opt out rather than in.
That's like a book club I used to be a member of, if you didn't opt out of their recommended book they sent it anyway & charged you for it. The opt out clause was very small print too.
I got caught out a few times with that, by not concentrating. They were never books I wanted to read either. I cancelled my membership eventually.

Re: Amazon Prime

I accidentally joined amazon prime .. I didn’t realise I had until I got the welcome to prime email . I thought my purchase qualified for free postage if I click on to amazon
It was easy to cancel before the free month came to an end.

Re: Amazon Prime

Getting free next day delivery on items isn't the only reason for joining Amazon Prime, the monthly fee also includes streaming TV and movies along with music.

He would pay either £79 per year or £7.99 per month which amounts to £95.88 per year.

That's more than I receive in pension.

Yep,

That's why I use it all the time.
I can also order something on a Saturday and it arrives Sunday.
I love Prime personally and think it's worth every penny. I save the annual fee just by the lack of delivery costs alone.

Re: Amazon Prime

I took a months trial of prime because the item I wanted was only available to prime members. I cancelled within the month but will probably rejoin. A much bigger reason to avoid amazon is their legal tax avoidance. Our government pays much more to amazon to use their cloud services than amazon pays in tax and amazon are pushing for a reduction in their business rates in the UK.

Book clubs were notorious for that, I was forever getting caught out, but they were back in the days of having to use the post and just forgetting to post back in time

Its funny that it was another discussion about Amazon Prime that prompted me into actually signing up for it. Im loving it. I get all the music you could ever wish for included as well as access to free books, films and box sets . The free delivery is for me an added bonus

Netflix is £5.99 a month and thats just tv, or for us it was £7.99 as we added mum. £7.99 covers us all here, plus daughter who doesnt even live in the same county

But yes I do agree it is very easy to click on prime by accident
