Today 24 Sept. is the 50th anniversary of the death of that brilliant Irish navvy painter Pebbles Pickaxo, who worked in Gilligan’s stone quarry and could shift 16 tons of gravel in the daytime and come home and paint a masterpiece before going to bed, what a man!Unfortunately himself and all his works were destroyed when he fell asleep with a lighted woodbine in his hand in bed, the little cottage he lived in and all it’s contents were burned to the ground, I believe his ashes went into the cement mixer and used to lay the new wider footpath in O’Connell Street, one has to ask oneself is that an honour or an insult.

Reminds me of a naughty poem my BIL taught me.I will have to change the words. It is a joke about an inscription on a grave.
Beneath this stone lies Mary Skinner
There is many a time that I have kissed her
I kissed her standing, I kissed her sitting
I even kissed her whilst she was knitting
But now she's dead and long forgotten
I think I'll dig her up, and kiss her rotten
