Global Powers are entering the Syrian war

This is one of the best analysis I have come across to explain the war in Syria and how the global powers are being dragged into it - it suggest it may be the start of WWIII and to think that old father Abraham started it all!!

Excellent, if depressing, article. Now nearly 11,000,000 adherents of the "religion of peace" killed by fellow muslims since 1948.

it was foretold and it never really was a religion of peace from the beginning - we just forgot history and now it's caught up with us!

Not really anything to do with religion per se, merely that Assad is trying to hold onto power in the face of a vociferous and large-scale opposition to his authoritarian rule of the country.

That may be the cause but the result is two factions of one religious faith fighting and dragging into the fight several large powers who have been fighting for global dominance in various ways for many years.

On this occasion, with any luck, given the large-scale cuts in defence spending, we may not be able to accompany the Americans if they decide to go to Syria in any strength. The Army's Chief-of-staff warned about further cuts in military spending as recently as earlier this week.
