Why that can"t be applied in the UK defies belief TBH.
Lots of places do now. We like Ask Italian and they always offer a box to take home what you don’t eat. We cut our pizzas in half before we start, eat half and take half home for supper and that leaves room for pudding! And all paid for with vouchers from our Tesco club points .....

I don’t mind having something l like, off someone’s plate before they start it but not after!

I have visions of me eating their saliva, as some people have more liquid on their plate than when they started!!

Hubby gets irritated with me if I try to share he always has my chips though. Sometimes they bring chips in pubs even if you haven't ordered them

Doggie bags - actually boxes, are ubiquitous. These days, many of the mid-range restaurants also offer to-go beverage cups.

I think a lot of this stems from the giant portions that so many places serve. It's not uncommon for people who are dieting to ask for a box early and box up half their meal so as not to eat the whole thing in one sitting.

I think doggy bags are more acceptable in the US than here. I remember once at a local restaurant having to sign a disclaimer in case I came down with food poisoning!

I wouldn't use a doggy bag.
If I thought I wasn't going to eat all my meal, I'd eat the meat and leave the chips. Not that I ever do leave a meal that is.
