I wouldn't risk it!
Watch the VT again and you will see a black plastic bracket breaks.

That Bracket is designed to break rather like a crumple zone on a car...if it didn't the blade could possibly bounce back....

That's quite a device Steve, over the years I've known many a shop joiner with missing fingers through using circular saws....

Including my dad ...he didn't lose a finger but got a nasty injury which needed a skin graft....

Having used machinery for years, I still have everything intact.
Having sold circular saws for years, I would want that out there a long time before trusting it.
It isn't the machines that are dangerous and cause the accident it is the operators that cause the accidents.
I would say have that device and the conventional guard at the same time, might be a better idea.

There are a lot of idiots out there ...my brother in law had a cross cut saw.....he took the guard off it because it "got in the way"...and guess what someone got cut ....yup it was my dad again ( he gave it to him) it caught the back of his finger fortunately only a nick this time ...It broke down a month ago thank goodness ...instead of fixing it i found him a new one ......
