Too Late to Leave!

It has been a hot day with temperatures up to 30°C in Western Sydney but there has also been a strong hot westerly wind. Deadly fire conditions.

The Rural Fire Service is now telling people near a bushfire in south-west Sydney that it is too late to leave.

The fire is burning through the Holsworthy army base and near the hospital.

People in Voyager Point, Pleasure Point, Sandy Point, Wattle Grove and the Holsworthy military complex should seek shelter because it is too late to leave.

Emergency messages are being sent to people in the area.

This is the second too late to leave warning issued in a month the last one was south of me.

Re: Too Late to Leave!

Too late to leave is the worst call because you have to protect your house or find shelter. It was the sheer speed of the wind and fire that trapped people because the main road out had to be closed.

It jumped Heathcote Rd (a natural fire break) no reports of houses lost though according to the news there were some close calls. The wind is buffetting my house (I am nowhere near the fire) but assuming it is the same in Sydney they will have to work hard to contain the blaze. Several local Bush Fire units have been sent Sydney to help fight it.

The weather is mad - April temperature records have been broken on an almost daily basis with temperatures 10° above average for April. It is Autumn but I still have my summer doona on the bed and most nights I sleep on top of it.
