According to the news this morning there are 500 fire fighters battling the blaze and they have managed to do some back burning during the night when conditions were right. The main thing this morning is to stop it jumping the Georges River.The blaze came very close houses in Menai.

After a couple of days of fires the threat has been reduced to "Advice" level. I heard on the radio that 2500 hectare had been burned out and they are back burning to contain the blaze still heading SW.The RFS is reviewing the bush fire season because it normally ends in March so the big (flying) water tankers the DC10 Nancybird and the C130 Hercules "Thor" — normally used for aerial water bombing — were not available to help fight the Sydney fire because they had been returned to the USA for their season.
Actually I just heard the hot wind picking up outside lets hope that is just local.

Bruce, those are some photos! When I was a teenager living in southern California, the hill fires were often visible from the house and helicopters would come in and siphon off the water in the swimming pool to help with the fires. I have a good friend has the C-130s out of California for several years.The next question is how this is going to affect your journey? Are you postponing, truncating. or changing your destinations? I am sure this is playing havoc with your site reservations. I hope you have a Plan B!
