salted butter/ unsalted butter

I was just wondering.... does anyone here eat salted butter and if so why?

We have salted and unsalted in the supermarket but what's the point of having salt in butter? Does it go back to the pre-fridge era?

Annie, I only use either light olive spread or Philadelphia very light on bread and wraps. I don't use butter anymore.

Salted butter spread on anything - because it tastes better, but:
Unsalted to cook with.

I like both types, but I agree, salted does taste better. I can't stand any sort of spread mixed with oil.

Re: salted butter/ unsalted butter

I do a lot of cooking. I use salted butter in my food but I never add extra salt to anything I cook. I use garlic powder instead. We don't even have salt on the dinner table unless a guest requests it. But I agree that salted butter does taste better. Many may disagree but I think that, unless you have a serious cholesterol problem, plain old butter is better for you than margarine. Above all, everything in moderation

Salted butter tastes better.

Butter is good for you ... in moderation.

Olive Oil is good for you ... but, when messed with and given spread-ability, it becomes no longer good for you.

I don't cook with butter either ... I don't do pastries/cakes.

extra virgin olive oil ... is an odd one. I never saw olive oil that didn't have extra virgin on the bottle.

Re: salted butter/ unsalted butter

I use both but mainly unsalted
I find unsalted butter goes off very quickly so when starting a new packet I portion it off into pieces and put just one small piece in the butter dish so I am not taking the whole packet in and out of the fridge all the time.
