There has been a huge amount of houses built around this area. Who on Earth is buying them unless it's Buy to Let landlords?

I can't see young couples being able to afford them.

A lot of paper is made from long fibre softwoods. Coniferous. Much of that is from Scandinavian countries. The have a fast growing species and they are replanted at a rate that keeps stock levels up.

Nowadays, recycling paper waste is quite big business.

A big tree has deposited a lot of carbondioxide. The moment you cut it, and most are cut to burn, the deposited carbon is released again as carbondioxide.
Wood in a landfil will release it's carbon due by being broken down by fungi.

The influence of the rainforest is mainly on water, and local. Influence of trees, forests in our region on earth, is nil.
I agree Solly that most trees in land clearance are burned
and that is part of the problem, the other is that when it rains
now the land gets eroded by the run off and contributes to
loss of topsoil etc, including landslides and collapse of
infrastructure!
However plantations are never burned as the timber cut is
a commercial product, and the trees are relaced almost
immediately
We need a coordinated world wide plan to make any real
difference to the climate!

That is correct Besoeker, they have hybridised some of the
pine species to mature in about 8 - 10 yrs! But it should be
possible to run a plantation without using these if we are
more patient and reschedule our production plans!

You mean ration the supply of paper?
And thus grow fewer trees?

If you plant trees to bind carbodioxide, and turn the trees in paper that is incinerated or dropped in a landfill, it turns into carbodioxide, your efforts to bind carbondioxide are neutralized.

No Solly, you can recycle paper very easily, therefore it
is ideal to replace plastic for packaging, just as we used to
do, but better due to more advanced tech!!
As you also point out it should help to relieve pressure
on landfill sites?

Most residences here have recycle refuse bins where anything that can be recycled is collected by the local council and sent to waste recycling plants.

I have dealt with a lot of process plants where recycled waste was their main, or sometimes only, source of material.
