Vitamin D Deficiencies

I read in the paper that the body does not get ANY vitamin D from sunlight between September and April in the UK.

Last year I had pain in my shins after walking and I put it down to being unfit. The pain disappeared in the summer.

Then again this year the same thing happened. I now take a vitamin D supplement every day and guess what, no more shin pain.

My GP also said that most of the UK population have a vitamin D deficiency in the winter unless they get some winter sun.

Re: Vitamin D Deficiencies

Winter sun sounds great Elbee, but a cheaper way is surely just to eat some of the foods that contain vitamin D, such as eggs and oily fish?

Even fish oil supplements are very cheap and can supply all the daily allowance without breaking the bank.

Having said all that, winter in the Bahamas does sound more fun....

Food sources such as Cheese, fatty fish, eggs, Liver, beef, Margarine, (fortified) are rich in vitamin D and are often recommended for consumption to those suffering vitamin D deficiency.

I dont like eggs, never have. last time I had one was 50 years ago.

Anyway they are high in bad cholestral which I need to avoid now.

I have never eaten cheese, liver is offall, beef is great but expensive.

If my GP agrees two Vitamin D tabets are a good idea then that is what I will do.
