Old painting revisited

I have decided to try and do some work on this old painting I started six years ago . Didn’t like it so left it half done.

Muddy, can I be honest?

Love the improvements to the horse, but think the background is too bright, too overpowering.
He should be the main feature to me, but the bright background hits you first.

To me, the second picture down where you have the beigy background makes him really stand out.

Please don't be offended but opinions are not a lot of help if they are not honest. X

I am not offended at all Mups just sloshed it on a little while ago and it’s dark -moral never paint in artificial light so I shall probably try and tone it down tomorrow .
Alas the beigy background was just the colour of the dirty old canvas ,
