Blood Pressure Tablets

Hi

A change of opinion, better taken at night than in the morning

Re: Blood Pressure Tablets

Fortunately I don't need them, Swim, but it might be interesting for those who do take them.
Trouble is, these 'experts' change their advice every five mintues!

Re: Blood Pressure Tablets

I saw that item of news this morning. I was always told to take mine in the morning. I will need to do some checks.

Re: Blood Pressure Tablets

I take blood pressure tablets in the morning as prescribed by my doctor but will mention this when I go for my annual check-up next week. I think I would rather have my doctor's opinion before changing the time I take them.

Re: Blood Pressure Tablets

I have to take blood pressure tablets and the instructions say early morning. I have to take them to keep my blood thin but there is a down side. I have had a dry cough for several months and it is worse when I am laid down in bed. My GP told me that the blood pressure tablets I am taking are the cause. So I have a choice. I think I will endure the cough.

Re: Blood Pressure Tablets

I always though BP medication was to lower your BP not to thin the blood but might be wrong .
I cough when I lie down,a bit of a frog in the throat really but I'm not on any medication .
Don't on any account stop BP medication !

I used to have a bad cough and it turned out my BP meds were the cause. The doctor tried me on a new tablet and the cough went.

Re: Blood Pressure Tablets

I read this news item earlier this morning as I have high blood pressure and am on medication. Since being on this I have always taken the medication late morning, mainly as I am often not awake and about until then, also it's reckoned most heart attacks and strokes occur early morning, after waking. Taking them later means this early time is covered by the last dose of medication.

Reading this item though it seems as if anyone whose circadian rhythm (body clock) is not working properly could be taking medication at the wrong time. My body clock definitely is not right after working permanent night shifts for over two decades, it's still stuck on nights despite being off them for 30 years. However, I have been on the same medication for over 12 years and I am still here, also my blood pressure is now as it should be. I will definitely be asking for more information about this though when I next see my GP, just to make sure.

This NHS link gives more information about blood pressure medication, and there are a lot of them. Which one is prescribed depends on age, medication for existing health problems and tolerance due to both of those:
