Woman swept into sea on Blackpool promenade

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-46781969

A woman was plucked unconscious from the sea in a dramatic rescue after being swept into the water by a large wave in Blackpool.

The 18-year-old was swept into the sea on the town's lower promenade during a night out with friends on Friday.

A lifeboat crew found her floating face down in the water close to North Pier at about 21:15 GMT.

She was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital in a "life-threatening" condition, coastguards said.

The lifeboat crew said it was "rare" for someone to survive after being submerged in the water for more than a few minutes.

The rescue, led by a three-man RLNI crew from Blackpool, took place in what were described as "very challenging conditions".
I don't know the circumstances of this near-tragedy but it's likely that the young woman and her friends was "playing" with the incoming waves and she was the unlucky one caught out by a strong one - that sort of incident is common and often results in a call-out to the RNLI - occasionally, it ends in a death.

The young woman was unlucky to be caught out but lucky that the RNLI got to her in time.

Her being on a "night out with friends" might have contributed too if they'd had a few drinks.

More than likely.

Apparently she slipped off the concrete apron and into the water. She was conscious and upright at first but it is thought she may have been dashed against the resort's newly-built sea wall by waves and knocked unconscious. By the time the lifeboat got to her she was face down in the water.
Oh dear ..... she may be in a worse condition than I'd hoped .....
