You haven't got my ears. They're unnaturally sensitive to the cold.

Strangely, they are the only part of my anatomy that is affected.

But I won't have fur or leather myself when I inherited my nans fur coat (mink) we dug a hole and gave it a decent burial.

I don't like to see people attacked for wearing it though I do think peaceful protest against it is OK.
That's daft. You could have sold it!

No that would encourage the trade it was important to give the creatures a decent end we could have throw it away but that seemed too disrespectful.

Re: Natural fur

I think most people object to real fur if the animal was killed just for that reason. It's a vile trade.

I once asked my brother's Russian fiancee whether she wore fur during the harsh Russian Winters, and she replied that fur coats are a must for most women in Russia, even fake fur. They have worn furs for hundreds of years. She said it is the aim of every women over there to own an expensive fur coat, preferably Sable, but only the very rich can afford to have a Sable coat.
Those who cannot afford a fur coat, have to put several layers of clothes on underneath their normal coats, but wearing a fur coat means they can go out in minus 30 just wearing a t-shirt underneath.
She also told me that the worse thing for any woman over there is to be caught standing next to another woman wearing the same fur coat ! just as we would with an outfit over here.

I, of course, resisted from telling her my thoughts, and those of most British, regarding the wearing of fur, as I didn't wish to offend her.

Furs, unfortunately, are something they wear on the streets of Moscow and Petersburg every day during winter.

Re: Natural fur

I am pretty sure there are man made fibres that work just as well as fur, you don't see people crossing the poles wearing fur they have more modern scientific approach to keeping frost bite at bay.

I should mention again that my first attempt to obtain an Ushanka hat led me to buy a fake fur hat from Amazon.

The first one I found was advertised by a company in Preston. I applied to buy one despite several negative reviews of the company. I am still waiting for the man to keep his promise and get back to me!

The second attempt, from a different Amazon company, was successful but the hat I received was too tight to wear comfortably. It cost only £8, so I haven't bothered to return it for a refund. Marge can have it!

I despaired of actually finding what I wanted online, but finally found a company (based in Manchester) which I could visit personally to try on their products. They specialised in real fur, but I thought "what the hell" and visited their premises. I liked the hat - £25 compared to others elsewhere I have seen for at least double the price - and bought it.

I stand to be condemned by those who disagree with the sale of real fur.

What a great answer.
It’s perfect.

Well a Russian winter is blinking freezing so IMO they have an excuse. It is the warmest material in such weather. If you are in a country where your teardrops and breath turns to ice in a second then you are allowed to wear fur. It was in the first instance used for practical purposes. We don't really know whether man made materials don't harm animals in a different way.

Humans survived harsh climes for thousands of years wearing furs. They are not necessary in warmer countries but a blanket demonisation of fur is just as blinkered as vegetarians thinking they don't harm animals by not eating meat.
