New Bank Cards

Anyone got one of the new "Contactless" bank cards yet?
I'd never heard of them until today and mine arrived.

Re: New Bank Cards

If you mean the proximity ones, I have had one for over a year. Had no problems with it though only a few retailers seem to have the terminal for them. My card still has those gold connectors for the connect type of terminal so it can be used in both.

Re: New Bank Cards

My credit card company sent me one about six months ago but I've not tried it out yet as I usually carry cash anyway for small purchases.

Not heard of them - how do they work?
Are they safer than the existing ones ?
Do we have a choice?

Re: New Bank Cards

I received mine the other day. I wondered what the heck it meant.
I wasn't really chuffed with the non contact the bank though.
A lot of these scammers take out small amounts of money to start
with then they go bigger when it works with the small bits.
It means I think that you just get a small amount out without having
to put your pin in or in my case online I get permission on some sites
from my bank to take my lotto ticket money out etc. Not used mine
yet but will be over the next week.

Re: New Bank Cards

I wondered what the heck it meant too BE. It seems we can pay for things up to the value of £20 by scanning the card instead of putting our pin numbers in, the shop has to be one that's participating in the scheme though.
I asked my building society what advantages there were and she just shrugged and said 'quickness'. Honestly, how many seconds does it take to put a pin in, its hardly a days work is it!
I can't see the point, and doubt I'll use it.

I hadn't heard of it either. I use my card for everything.

Re: New Bank Cards

I think the safety aspect is just that you cannot use it for anything above £20 then you are back to using your PIN anyway, so hardly be worth the while of a criminal to bother with it...
