Re: Pain patches vs tablets.

I am shocked at the number of painkillers you said you took .....just to enjoy a day out .
No wonder you were sick . You overdosed !

One of my friends prefers patches .

Yes carol darlin' I have used pain patches in the past - Phentanyl (morphine derivative). They helped alleviate the pain, but the downside is that the 'sticky' on them is not very clever and they sometimes fall off before they're due to be removed. The other downside is that the 'new' patch can't be placed on the same spot, so you have to find different sites for it.

Thank you Realist. I will try ginger & other anti inflammatory foods. It makes sense.

UJ I don't think morphine would do as a long term pain patch. I would become addicted but thanks anyway.

Zuleika I would like to know more about your friends pain patches.

Thanks everybody who answered. I'm feeling a bit desperate now I've reached the end of the line..

Re: Pain patches vs tablets.

how long have you had this Carol? It's supposed to go away after a while isn't it?

Where BTW is your condition presenting pain? The hip?

Have to tried using Glucosamine Gel which contains Capsicum (peppers).

It has relieved pain within minutes for a number of family members who had painful arthritis and back pains.

Thanks Realist - Tony tried that gel for his arthritis but it didn't help him. I've tried all the gels you could think of but the bursitis is so deep down between my muscles that the gel doesn't reach it.

Yes in most cases it should go but in my case it hasn't. I'm very unlucky. It's almost 2 years now since it started.

Carol I dont know much about pain patches ,my niece has them ,but I dont think they help much. As said I too think you should talk to your Dr about your pain, as what suits one person may not suit you. Ihope you get some relief soon

Carol, I admit I haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if I'm asking twice, but have you considered Acupuncture?

I've seen many doctors & specialists. I've had an MRI scan, physio & steroid injections - and drugs of course. The consultant told me it's notoriously hard to treat. I keep up with the physio exercises daily but not had any improvement.

On some lucky people it gets better but I'm not lucky - I've given up hope of a recovery now.

I just want to control the pain so I can carry on doing the things I enjoy.
Ignore the doctors .. they got my tennis elbow wrong too. Steroid injections didn't work. Sounds like you're having to live with it the best you can like I do.

In October 2015 I woke up one morning with my arm stuck bent at a 90 degree angle like a boomerang, for no reason I could figure out. Couldn't bend it at all. After half an hour of pushing and levering I jammed it between my knees and forced it as straight as it would go.
Went off to the quacks ... give it 18 months to 2 years to heal he said. It will naturally heal itself when the time is ready.

After nearly three years I still can't straighten it fully. It's inconvenient at times ..carrying things, opening doors, lifting kettles, brushing teeth, signing my name and sometimes crunches and aches like mad.
One day when I get around to it I'll go and give my doctor hell or just break the damn thing.

I tried that glucosamine gel and all manner of rub in creams and nothing makes any difference.

Yes I've had acupuncture - laser therapy - almost anything you've heard of - I've tried.

I've wasted hundreds on pounds on going to see a private chiropractor for these treatments.

In all that time Carol has it ever shown any gradual improvement?
