Taking things easier.
Recently I'm finding that I'm beginning to take things in my stride more than I used to. I'm feeling it much easier not to get annoyed or irritated with trivial occurrences and instead I'll simply 'switch off'.
For example, at work in our tea breaks the people I work with religiously watch Family Guy and American Dad during our night shifts. These are inane and loud American adult cartoons and my work colleagues are howling with laughter at them every night. Where at one time I would complain and moan and turn the TV over, I now sit on my own reading my music magazine and doing the Mail crossword utter oblivious to these stupid and moronic cartoons that my fellow 50-somethings are rolling around the floor at.
At the gym I've also decided to start taking things easy. Simply banging out the heavy weights in an effort to "stay big" doesn't interest me anymore. I am quite happy to keep myself to an adequate level of fitness without hammering the muscles, a pointless thing to be doing when you're over 50. It's taken me a long long time to be realistic about that but I'm actually feeling more alert and having more energy since I've eased off on all that pummelling.
(Mods breathe a sigh of relief)
Then at home when I would be frustrated about everyday happenings such as 'spilt milk' or a stupid celebrity appearing on TV, I just turn my back on it all and go into another room to relax with a book. Similarly, I can't be bothered with arguing anymore on this forum with certain individuals who have a penchant for this type of conversation. Until recently, I would be one of them but now I will leave the thread and move on. I feel much more relaxed because of this.
And that's the operative phrase - "Move on". Life's too short to worry, argue and bother about mundane happenings.
Does anyone else go through this? Am I being lazy or just becoming a little wiser in my post-middle age?
