British Gas Homecare.

I have been with them for over 15yrs,..i believe they have made more out of me,than i out of them, but,it's just having that reassurance, when you really need it,..my machine died on me,they were a bit slow on coming out,2 weeks, but they did fit a new drum, working now like a dream,i have used them on quite a few occasions ,electrical, plumbing, ..i read up on there reviews, a few days ago, some weren't very good,..do you have a home plan agreement, with a service provider?...or wouldn't you go near them?..all truthful comments welcome,

Re: British Gas Homecare.

I have a boiler contract with SSE . I've been with them 9 years , when the contract is coming to an end I negotiate the cost . I know I'm going to be told it's such a waste of money to get embroiled in but I have been ripped off so many times by engineers I've called out . During the contract I've had them out at least twice in the year to replace parts and a thorough service yearly . I too get peace of mind as I know they will come asap and I can be assured the work done will be the best .

Re: British Gas Homecare.

Under the Homecare agreement with BG I have had various electrical and plumbing jobs done and repairs to kitchen appliances. A major job was searching for a water mains leak that my water company stated was under my lawn. It took 3 days of digging, the use of specialised equipment but was eventually sorted. No doubt it would have cost me an arm and a leg had I not had cover.

I've used several suppliers of home maintenance agreements. Some have been cheap, some not; some have been good, some not. BG Homecare is not cheap, but it is good.

Several times I have had major repairs/replacements undertaken by BGH that saved me hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds.

Re: British Gas Homecare.

Would never sign up to any of these subscription "service" plans and esp not BG. I've often been at my local postal delivery office to pick up a parcel and the BG boys are always there in numbers presumably picking up delivered parts. The things you here them say about houses and what they are doing simply underpinned what I already knew. Money for old rope.

All these "service" schemes and insurance pitches are all predicated on the age old same trick, yes you guessed it the "Campaign Of Fear". It really does get very old.

You see it everywhere. Pay pay pay or else something bad will happen.

I lived in my house for about 20 years. Still have an old style boiler in the airing cupboard which is going just fine thanks. NEVER had it serviced, never had any problems with it.

The small boiler in the garage needed a new gas valve this year, that's the only thing it has needed in 20 years. It was easy to establish what the boiler make/model was and to source a replacement part. Then just got a gas fitter to pop it in which took 10mins.

These corporations will always find ways to part people from their money and they all use the classic "Campaign of Fear" to do it.

I just swap between them every year through Quidco and get the new customer deal which is usually quite good, yes I know I harp on about Quidco a lot and no I am not on commission
I was with BG last year but I with HomeServe this year

I do all my own repairs , we often get Yorkshire water writing to us about our responsibility of the mains water to our house, I’ve never known anyone around here that has had problems like this and more often than not your house insurance will cover this, realist is right when these companies try to scare you into buying these covers, you’d be better putting the money aside to either buy new or pay to have it fixed

Re: British Gas Homecare.

I don't have any spare cash for these service cover type thingies.

My CH warranty ran out last year, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed everything's ok this year now I'll have to pay. (It's not with BG ).

I keep getting stuff re BG Homecare shoved through in the post. In fact I got one today about 3 mths half price (or free, can't remember which). It went straight in the bin.

I had an elderly lady friend who had nothing but trouble with Homecare or was it Homeserve

Re: British Gas Homecare.

Got a new boiler on the justification that no need to pay £25.00 a month for breakdown cover, but, the new one had a seven year guarantee, but, that is only good, if like a car, you have it serviced every year, at a cost of £90.00.
