Yes, I have to say it startled me too. We think it just hibernated where we found it. And maybe coming out of that and moved a bit which caught the cats attention. Jenny, my daughter, gently picked it up and put it back in its cage and gave it some food. Defrosted frozen mice IIRC correctly.

I have to admire her for the care she gave our various animals.
