Re: Wild flowers

Coral root Orchid, quite rare in the UK. Tiny plant that does not have roots as such, it lives on fungi that live as a lumpy mass at the base of the plant. Im lucky to live near a colony of these.

Water mint,bees love this .

Southern marsh orchid.

Very hardy weedy vine...can't get rid of it!

Posted yesterday but It must have flown to the moon as I don't see it...anyway, lost power at mid day and didn't come back on until late last night...powerful thunder storms and heard a tree was down on the lines from being hit by lightning. I am telling you after the battery on my lap top was drained it was boring!!

Re: Wild flowers

That's what we call 'Bitter Sweet' Shirley. Very invasive given the chance. It produces small, egg shaped berries between May/September and is poisonous. It is of the Nightshade Family......

Re: Wild flowers

Nice picture Alan, I just love the Alpines.
This one, taken a week or so ago along side the Trans Pennine Way.......The Scarlet Pimpernel. A very small flower, maybe 7 or 8mm across flower head, but very pretty though.

Re: Wild flowers

A wild shrub called a Michigan Dogwood...picture taken last week and has tiny green berries already. They will ripen to ivory and attrack birds.

I have some Hawkweed out by the ditch, in the lawn. Sometimes it is very yellow.

Joe Pye weed, closely related to milkweeds. Has skinny long seed pods instead of fat ones. I remember as a child we picked bags of milkweed pods for the war effort, I think they were use to fill flotation vests.
