Re: A serious crime

Just another example of how soft british law is. The problem is there are too many "Do Gooders" being listened to by those with authority, and the average person is totally ignored. The politicians we have now are gutless to the point of trying to see the difference between them and jellyfish.

We spend too much time trying to conform to European law instead of sticking two fingers up to them and going back to how our country should be run.

Lets hope UKIP gets into power and Nigel keeps to what he preaches and get us out . WE did ok when we traded with the world and still can again.

Re: A serious crime

From what I understand people have to have hope and to keep the prison population calm the hope is doled out by cutting time off their sentences. I am not convinced that is right and perhaps we need to find some other way to keep them calm other than letting them out before time. Although do we have any evidence an extra year or two will actually change a person and make them behave better ? perhaps prison should be more about rehabilitation and less about punishment ?

Re: A serious crime

If someone gets five years they should do that term.
If they are 'violent' especially ......
Prison should also be about protecting the public

I agree Patsy I just wonder if we can do something to make sure people are safe on their release and not a time bomb about to go off.

Well, tonight I was told something really alarming. There was a stabbing down in the town last weekend, and a man died as a result. Turns out the murderer was the same bloke who smashed my car up - the bloke the cops told me they had put away for 15 months (just 8 months ago).
It seems yet another case of law breakers never serving the full sentence given. Maybe the poor man who died would still be alive if the murderer was still in jail as he should have been.
I find this quite frightening.
Blimey, Mups, that IS frightening! Thank goodness you didn't have any contact with him when he smashed into your car. And I hope you can be reassured by him getting a long sentence now.

I agree..

I also agree that if someone is sentenced to a term of imprisonment then they should serve that term.

If you're caught in the act - you're guilty, a trial is just a formality
