Re: Let the train take the strain

£370 x 52 weeks is £19,000 plus taxis or station parking so buying a car over say three years ... £60,000
So she could have a brand new FORD MUSTANG £44,000 and run it three years petrol for the cost of just ONE TRAIN TICKET A WEEK !!!!

That would be the on the day walkon fare ?
If she or anyone in fact knows when they’re travelling
there are much cheaper advance fares available up to the date of travel
There are some good bargains to be had .

Re: Let the train take the strain

Some of the Cardiff to London First great western fares are ridiculous. It has to be one of the most expensive networks and the trains aren't up to scratch either.

Correct Annie
The GWR is horrendously expensive .
A walk on from Wilts costs well over £100 to London .

Re: Let the train take the strain

I think it's a national disgrace considering that Britain invented and developed the railways in the first place that the charges are so high. This isn't exactly the way to get people to abandon their cars and travel by rail is it?

You have to select and book according to price .

Never rely on phoning for tickets , they don’t care about offering the cheapest trains unless you ask .

Unless you’re travelling spontaneously or in an emergency why wait until the day ?
Also Senior Citizen’s Railcard give you a third off fares .
Family railcards offer bargains as do 2 together .
I never have to pay out extortionate fares ,I do my homework .

Perhaps, but you have to be a senior citizen to get one of those. I don't qualify. I'm sure by the time I get to the qualifying age there will be no benefits or they will raise the threshold.

They have few decent advance fares. Unless you want to travel at midnight with the party goers and hen nights.
