What is this?

I saw this creature on the handle of the patio doors a few minutes ago, it looks like a butterfly, but not one I have ever come across before, can someone identify it please?

I tried working the picture up but couldn't enough to get a better view
. First thought were a Damsel or dragon fly but the body is too short. So sorry can't help
maybe posting a full size photo will give a better idea

That must be the case.

It was attached to the handle by a cobweb, but flew of as soon as I had taken the photo and released it.
