Yorkshire Day

Happy Yorkshire Day

Today is the day when all right-minded Yorkshire People commemorate the violation and destruction of the three `Ridings` for the purposes of local government re-organisation where County Councils were replaced by `Unitary Authorities. (to be read as more jobs for the boys). In my case, it was also the beginning of the reviled Kirklees Council (Hawk! Spit!) which did away with Metropolitan Boroughs in favour of a bloated, cancerous ever-increasing expensive bureaucracy interested only in wasting the euphemistically called `community charge` on pet projects.

Rant Over.

Back to more pleasant things.

August the 1st is also the date of the emancipation of all slaves in the British Empire in 1834. For all BLM looking in, that's 180 years ago.

On a lighter note, it is also the date of when the English, assisted by Germany, once again kicked French arses in the Battle of Minden in 1759.

I am only Yorkshire by adoption - but it is a lovely place and I am happy to wave the Yorkshire flag!
