As a young kid, I really would have liked to have built myself a Dalek, but I couldn't lay my hands on the necessary equipment.
Obviously, I'd have needed a small tricycle, but more importantly, everything else would have ended up being made from cardboard!

Have you ever been to a Comi-con? They are amazing, lots of people dressed as their favourite comic, film or TV characters & for some a tell & show where they get judged by the celebs, usually stars of said TV or films, who attend. It's great fun to watch, though I never wanted to take part myself.

The sink plunger was always a good place to start.
